idk, my bff Hamilton Beach Immersion Blender

On an impulse that was predicated on 20 years of convincing infomercials and a suggestion from my sage-like mother, I purchased an Immersion Blender. We are now on a strict diet of blended foods because when it comes to pureeing, I apparently have no self-control.  And I smile like the Joker until everything is smooth, even and lump free. We’ve had blended soup, banana milk, blended hummus (recipe-ish to follow), and an oddly satisfying pear-apple turkey gravy.   I would like to replace my left forearm with an immersion blender, please.

Let’s talk about that hummus for a second.  I usually spend $3.50 on a little container of regular hummus at the grocery store and now I feel like a big dummy because I just made a huge vat of it at home for a dollar.  That’s right, ONE DOLLAR. We are getting ripped off, Internet.  Thank GOD I spent $20 on a new BFF!  Making it was a breeze, plus, I had the added satisfaction of watching it ooze out of the blender in little tentacles, to resemble my very favorite aquatic animal, the octopus (do you see now why this brings me so much joy?).  Here’s how I made it:

Dump 2 cans of chickpeas, 2 cloves of garlic, and a big handful of parsley into a bowl, plus some lemon juice (start with a little because you can always add more later).  Hit it with the immersion blender. Feel the tornado of power. Add tons of salt and any other flavors you like—tahini would increase the yum, but I don’t have that at my house.  If you don’t have an immersion blender and you are okay with living your life that way (I’m not judging you, but…) you could probably just use a blender, food processor or, heck, break a sweat and use a potato masher!

Seriously, you need one of these.

OMG – I LOVE my immersion blender. I never really saw the need to have one until I actually got it. I use it all the time. It is one of the most used appliances in my kitchen. I’m with you!

My immersion blender is my second favorite kitchen appliance, after my KitchenAid mixer, of course. We just got another one for our wedding last July, with the great enthusiasm of my Aunt Suzy, who remarked that no kitchen should be without one. We completely agree!

I always say I need one of those whenever I have to puree soup in batches using the blender. You’ve just convinced me that it’s essential I have one.
